True Blood Quotes!

What the fuck is it with white people and Jello? — Layfayette to Tara at Gram’s wake., True Blood – Season One – “Cold Ground”

I loved “Dead and Gone” by Charlaine Harris!

deadandgonesmWell, I’ve now read (listened to) Dead and Gone twice, by Charlaine Harris, and loved where the author took Sookie in her latest installment.   (This is the 9th installment.)  This definitely is a darker novel than the previous ones.  However, considering the supernatural beings Sookie is related to and has chosen to associate with, some of the darker things that happen in this novel are kind of just par for the course of life in Sookie’s world.  Some were hard to read, some were sad, many questions were answered and, in the end, Sookie appeared to be stronger in character than ever before.

I really don’t want to go into much detail here, as there may be some who stumble upon this page who haven’t read the book and want to.  For those who haven’t read any of the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries, I say to treat yourself and start with the first one, Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris.  For me, they were kind of hard to put down and kept reading one after another.  I only wish Charlaine Harris could write them as fast as her fans can read them!

“Dead and Gone” is #1 on the NY Times bestseller list!!!

CONGRATS CHARLAINE!!!

The “Do Not Disturb” sign is up till I finish listening!  Today is certainly a glorious day. :)

The Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries…

Dead Until Dark:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #1…

I’ve been watching Trueblood on HBO and I’m totally hooked. It’s in the 9 p.m. time slot here and I’ve even left my deaduntildark1favorite Desperate Housewives to watch via the web episodes at 10 p.m.  As a kid, I loved my Dracula, Frankenstein and Werewolf movies of the 1950s. Now at 62, I still enjoy a vampire tale here and there to just escape from watching the polls, election news, etc. Recently I discovered Trueblood was from the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mysteries, by Charlaine Harris, and they are ALL on Audible.com! What a treat!

I’m almost finished with Dead Until Dark and loving it. BTW…the series Trueblood on HBO has been following this book pretty closely. The narrator, Johanna Parker, even sounds much like Anna Paquin, who plays Sookie in the series, and she does a wonderful job narrating the book.

I’ll be moving on to Living Dead in Dallas, the second book in the Sookie Stackhouse Series in a day or so. If you like this genre, read or listen to this one.

Publisher’s Summary:

“Vampires have officially “come out of the coffin”, and Miss Sookie can’t wait for one to come her way.

Anthony Award-winner Charlaine Harris’ New York Times and USA Today best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels entice countless fans with an irresistible mixture of vampire romance, beguiling mystery, and old-fashioned Southern charm.”

Living Dead in Dallas:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #2…

This is the second installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series.  I love them!  It’s great to sookie2get away and just listen to my Audible.com downloaded book and go on an adventure with vampires, shape shifters and werewolves.  What fun!

Publisher’s Summary:

“In the follow up to Dead Until Dark, telepathic friend of the undead (and vampire bar cocktail waitress) Sookie Stackhouse puts her newfound powers to the test. After an unfortunate incident, Sookie finds herself beholden to a group of Louisiana vampires. So she agrees to travel to Dallas with her undead boyfriend Bill and track down a missing vamp, but only if the vampires promise to let local humans go unharmed. That seems easier said than done when an upstart religious cult threatens to destroy all things vampire – including Sookie, who is quickly scheduled for sacrifice.”

Club Dead:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #3…

This is the third installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series. This book finds Sookie taking clubdeadto the road with a werewolf as she looks for her vampire boyfriend, Bill. Lots of action, new characters and old favorites in this one!

Publisher’s Summary:

“In this entry from Anthony Award-winner Charlaine Harris’ New York Times best-selling series, the gorgeous and feisty telepath hits the road to find her missing boyfriend, who may have run off with his former lover – a notorious vamp.”

I can’t wait to move on to the next one. I’m waiting to hear when Audible.com will have the fourth book, “Dead to the World” available for download. I hope it’s soon!

***Note: On December 15, 2008, Audible.com has the fourth installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mystery Series, Dead to the World.  Now you can find ALL eight books in this series on Audible!  Hooray!

Dead to the World:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #4…

sookie42On December 15, 2008, Dead to the World was finally available on Audible.com.  It seems that this book was the last of the series to be recorded by Recorded Books and so many Sookie fans were waiting for it.  I had the CDs on hold at the library, as I was anxious to move on with the series, but it ended up being available on Audible.com first.   I would check almost daily at both places and downloaded it immediately when I found it at Audible.  I was one happy lady!

This is the fourth installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series.  This book finds Sookie involved with Eric the vamp in ways she never thought she could ever be.  This book introduces us to more  new “sups” (people of the supernatural world) and  delivers lots of action.   Johann Parker, the narrator for all the Sookie novels, is excellent and sounds much like Anna Paquin from the Trueblood series on HBO.

Publisher’s Summary:

New York Times best-selling author Charlaine Harris thrills listeners with the fourth book of her spectacular Sookie Stackhouse series.

Driving home from work, barmaid and telepath Sookie Stackhouse discovers vampire and area sheriff Eric on the side of the road missing his shirt, his shoes and his memories. Featuring vampires, werewolves and magic galore, Dead to the World will satisfy any listener’s craving for the supernatural.”

IMHO this one is the best Sookie yet!

Dead as a Doornail:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #5…

This is the fifth Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery.  I downloaded the unabridged audiobook from doornail1Audible.com.  There’s not much I would add to the publisher’s summary as I hate to put up spoilers here on this blog.  I love this series!

Publisher’s Summary:

“New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Charlaine Harris has won an Anthony Award for her one-of-a-kind Sookie Stackhouse mystery series. Sookie, a Louisiana cocktail waitress, skilled telepath, and friend to vampires, has a dedicated fan base that grows larger every day.

Because her mind-reading ability tends to spook people, most of Sookie’s friends are of the not-exactly-human variety. And now that her brother is about to transform into a were-panther for the first time, the supernatural world is suddenly a family affair. When Sookie realizes a deadly sniper is gunning down the local changelings, her feelings turn to full-blown terror. She needs to stop the assassin before the next full moon…if he doesn’t get to her first.

With its delightfully quirky characters and delicious suspense, Dead as a Doornail is a vampire mystery readers will love sinking their fangs into.

Read or listen to this one!

Definitely Dead:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #6…

This is the sixth installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series.   I downloaded this one from sookie6Audible.com and I’m so happy they have the whole series!

Publisher’s Summary:

“With a rabid fan base that grows larger each day, the New York Times and USA Today best-selling Sookie Stackhouse mysteries by acclaimed author Charlaine Harris are not to be missed. Along with their phenomenal popularity, the books have also captivated critics and earned such prestigious honors as an Anthony Award.

Wedding fever has come to Bon Temps, Louisiana! Unfortunately, buxom, blond, beautiful, and telepathic cocktail waitress Sookie is not the bride-to-be, so she takes the opportunity to travel to New Orleans on family business. As heir to the estate of her newly dead cousin Hadley, Sookie unearths a big secret. Soon it becomes clear that more than a few people will do anything to stop Sookie from looking into Hadley’s past. Fresh, fashionable, and a little bit frightening, Definitely Dead is the best entry yet in an endlessly entertaining series.”

Lots of action and political intrigue with the vamps in this one!!

All Together Dead:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #7…

sookie7aThis is the seventh installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mystery series and I’m still loving every minute of it.  These books are so much fun to listen to.

It’s now post-Katrina in Lousiana.  New Orleans has been ravaged by the hurricane and the vampire conference Sookie has to attend is in Rhodes rather than New Orleans.  Lots of plans within plans and action in this one.  As always, Sookie saves the day (night)!

Publisher’s Summary:

Anthony Award-winning author Charlaine Harris has earned a devoted fan base with her USA Today and New York Times best-selling Sookie Stackhouse mystery series. All Together Dead features more dark but frequently hilarious adventures of buxom, blonde, beautiful, and telepathic cocktail waitress Sookie, who prefers the company of vampires to that of the living.”

Don’t miss this one!

From Dead to Worse:  Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery #8…

This is the eighth installment in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Mystery series.  Darn, this is the last one sookie8until May 5, 2009!

Publisher’s Summary:
