The Hobbit….
I first read The Hobbit the summer of 1969. I also went to Woodstock that summer (but that is another story). The
Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were the books to read back then for any respectable student, especially one of the hippy persuasion.
What can I say about The Hobbit that hasn’t been said? As far as finding The Hobbit audiobook, unabridged and narrated word for word, you will have to buy, borrow from the library or rent the CDs for this one. Don’t settle for anything less than a narration by Robert Inglis. Robert Inglis is to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as Jim Dale (U.S.) and Stephen Fry (U.K) are to the Harry Potter books as far as narration goes. There are dramatized versions of both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but Robert Inglis tops them all and narrates the only unabridged versions. I wish Audible.com would get these unabridged versions; however, they do carry the dramatized versions.
The Hobbit is soon to be made into a movie with a proposed release date of December 2011. The director will be Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are the executive producers. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know how great the Lord of the Rings movies, directed by Peter Jackson, were and still are.
The Lord of the Rings…
Again, what can I say about The Lord of the Rings that hasn’t been said? I can tell you that listening to the unabridged audiobook, narrated by Rob Inglis, is an exceptional experience. I just put my head back and let the greatest saga of all time take me away to Middle Earth, to a different time and place inhabited by wizards, hobbits, dwarfs, elves and some of the darkest evil put to ink and paper. An adventure of good triumphing over evil, determination, loyalty and love. An adventure to be listened to or re-read each year to renew the soul.
