Always – Severus Snape Tribute

The above is a tribute to Severus Snape I found on You Tube in 2007 and it still brings a bit of a tear to my eye.  Yes, it’s almost time to begin my yearly adventure to Harry Potter’s world and meet up again with my favorite character, Severus Snape.

The Harry Potter books, by J.K. Rowling….

sstoneI guess I’m just a 62-year-old kid at heart and really love the Harry Potter novels and movies. I really hated to see the series finally come to an end in July 2007.

Sometime around the the opening of the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Socerer’s Stone, I was very interested in why Harry was so popular with our youth. I was thinking of getting the books for my Godson so I ordered a set of the first 4 books and began to read. As I read the first words of Chapter One:

“Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much,”

I had that wonderful, delicious feeling that told me I was in for something very special. This was the same feeling I had when I opened my first Mary Poppins’ book, Mary Poppins in the Park. I read through the first four books and became hooked and couldn’t put them down!  My Godson was only about 6 at that time and I ended up keeping those first four books!  Pretty soon Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published and I devoured that one also. After waiting forever Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released and, finally in July of 2007, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released and the series came to a close.  My Godson turned 11 in 2008 and I’m happy to say I finally gave him the full set of 7 hardcover books for his birthday this year.

BTW….I now listen to the series every July and love every word narrated by Jim Dale.!

Notes on Severus Snape….

From the end of the first book, Harry Potter and the Socerer’s Stone, we find Severus Snape to be a very mysterious snapeootp2and complex character. He acted toward Harry as if he hated him, treated him with contempt, yet went out of his way to save Harry. After the end of that first book, I couldn’t wait to get to the next book to see what more was revealed about my dear Severus. I kept carefully searching for clues with each new novel.  By the time I got into reading the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I was sure of the connection of Severus Snape to Harry’s past. After reading the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I’m happy to say I was totally right on and my theory was correct!  I’m not going to reveal any more in case there are any readers out there who still haven’t read all the books.

The Audiobooks….

Along the way I discovered what a treat it was to listen to the unabridged audiobooks on CD.  Jim Dale narrates them all in the U.S. (Stephen Fry in the U.K.) and they are marvelous. Give yourself a real treat and rent one or check one out from your library. You’ll want to listen to or own them all.
